Doug Lynam CRPS®
Doug came to wealth management by an unusual road. He graduated at the top of his class from Marine Corps Officer Candidate School, spent twenty years as a Benedictine monk while running the mathematics department at a prestigious private school, and then built a decade-long career in asset management. Most recently, he was a Partner at LongView Asset Management in Santa Fe before joining CMIA. The throughline across those chapters is the question Doug now helps clients answer: how to build a life of meaning, with money in its proper role as a means rather than an end.
Doug's work with clients begins where many wealth conversations stop. Beyond the technical work of investing and planning, he is the advisor clients turn to for the harder questions. How much is enough? How to leave a legacy that strengthens a family rather than dividing it. How to make peace with money so it stops being a source of anxiety and starts being a source of confidence. The conversations are not soft. They sit at a place where serious financial decisions are actually made, which is rarely done on a spreadsheet alone.
Doug is the author of two books published by HarperCollins: From Monk to Money Manager and Taming Your Money Monster. His writing and ideas have appeared in The New York Times, CNBC, MarketWatch, and Investopedia, and his TEDx talk on monastic wisdom and personal finance has reached a wide audience. He holds a B.A. from St. John's College, the “Great Books” college known for its rigorous classical curriculum, and earned his CRPS® designation in retirement plan design.
Doug lives in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where he is an active member of Rotary and is usually found writing, reading about the nature of consciousness, doing yoga, and working on his golf game.
Michael Bucceri
Michael spent his early career as a CPA, during which he learned that the right answer to most financial questions lies at the intersection of strategy and taxes. Three decades later, that conviction still shapes how he advises clients. When a portfolio decision, a retirement plan, or a wealth transfer crosses his desk, the tax consequences are not an afterthought added at the end. They are built into the recommendation from the first conversation.
Michael's work focuses on the harder questions that arrive in the second half of a financial life. How to convert a lifetime of earnings into a steady, tax-efficient retirement income. How to time Social Security, Required Minimum Distributions, and Roth conversions in the right sequence. How to transfer wealth to the next generation without triggering avoidable taxes or family complications. The conversations are technical, and the stakes are real. Years of public speaking have given Michael a rare gift for explaining technical decisions in real language that clients can actually use.
Michael lives in Pinehurst with his two hounds, Ralphie and Bella, and is an avid golfer when he is not restoring classic cars, listening to classic rock, or losing an evening to the History Channel.
Albert Chen CFP®
Albert built several successful businesses before he built CMIA, and the discipline that ran through all of them was the same: serve the customer in front of you, and the rest takes care of itself.
After running restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina, Albert joined Merrill Lynch and earned a place on a team managing more than $3 billion in client assets. He was recognized as one of the top new advisors in the country before deciding to build a firm of his own, one where independent fiduciary advice and personal attention came first. He founded Course Management Investment Advisors to deliver the level of personal attention, fiduciary care, and strategic depth that he believed the families he worked with deserved and were not always getting.
Albert holds a degree from the Honors College of Florida State University and earned his CFP® designation. He lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina with his wife Donna and their two sons, Owen and Nolan, who keep him on the baseball circuit most weekends. When he is not at a ballfield, he is most likely on a golf course, at a good meal with friends, or planning the next trip.
Brian MacIntosh
Brian is part of the reason "course management" is more than a brand line at our firm. He spent the early part of his career as a professional golfer, where he learned that the players who win consistently are not the ones with the best shots. They are the ones who plan the round, manage the conditions, and avoid the trouble that turns a good score into a bad one. That discipline is exactly how he advises clients today.
Brian's practice spans two worlds. With individuals and families, he builds plans designed to perform across the full arc of a market cycle, protecting capital in downturns and capturing growth when conditions allow. With companies, he designs and manages workplace retirement plans, from open enrollment through the participant education meetings that make those plans actually work for the people who depend on them. In both, his focus is the same: clear strategy, careful risk management, and the patience to play the long game.
Brian holds a degree in Business Administration and Economics from Campbell University. He lives in the Charlotte area with his wife, Michele, and their blended family of five, in a home they renovated themselves. When he is not on a course, he is fishing, in his woodshop, or driving up to the Carolina mountains for the day.
Kamryn Bivens
Kamryn is the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. From the paperwork required to open a new account to the dozens of small operational details that keep an existing relationship running smoothly, she is the steady hand behind the scenes at CMIA. The advisors handle conversations. Kamryn handles the follow-through that makes those conversations real.
Born in Pinehurst and raised in nearby Sanford, Kamryn discovered her interest in financial services during four years in her high school's Academy of Finance, then earned a degree in Integrated Health Science from Western Carolina University with additional coursework in entrepreneurship and investing. She is currently working toward her professional licenses as an investment advisor, the early steps of a long career in this work. She brings to the firm the same disciplines that made her a two-time Female Athlete of the Year in high school across volleyball, softball, and basketball: attention to detail, follow-through, and a real sense of what it takes to keep a team running well. Like a good investment, her contribution to the firm is one that compounds.
Outside the office, Kamryn plays guitar, plays golf, and spends her extra time on the beverage cart at Pinehurst #8, where the assets she manages are decidedly more liquid.
