Wealth management at CMIA is one practice with several facets, not several services running in parallel. Your investments, your planning, your tax strategy, your estate work, and the protection layer around your household are connected in reality, and we work them as one connected discipline. A change in any one area affects the others, and integration produces outcomes that many prospects have not seen before.

The result is the experience our clients describe most often: the relief of finally having one team that sees the whole picture, and the quiet confidence of knowing the small decisions and the big ones are being made together rather than in isolation.

That is what course management actually means. Here is the work we do, and how it fits together.

Investment Management

We build custom portfolios tailored to your specific goals, tax situation, time horizon, and how you actually think about risk. No off-the-rack allocations. Each client receives a customized strategy and a portfolio constructed from the ground up to support it.

Our investment process gives equal weight to participating in growth and protecting capital when markets turn. That balance is built into every decision, from asset allocation through individual position selection. It is also the reason we use a wider toolkit than most independent firms have access to, including custom-structured notes designed in partnership with institutional issuers such as JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and BNP Paribas. Used carefully, these instruments give us additional ways to pursue defined income, conditional principal protection, and asymmetric upside, particularly in volatile markets.

The goal is a portfolio that holds its footing in every kind of market, not only the easy years.

Financial Planning

A great portfolio is one piece of a financial life, not the whole of it. Our planning work integrates the questions that actually shape outcomes over decades.

  • Retirement income design. How to convert a lifetime of earnings into a steady, sustainable income stream that lasts.
  • Social Security and Required Minimum Distribution strategy. How to time and sequence the major income decisions of retirement to minimize lifetime taxes and maximize what you keep.
  • Cash flow and savings planning. How much to spend, save, and invest, with the underlying math made clear so the decisions feel grounded rather than guessed.
  • Education funding. How to support children and grandchildren without compromising your own retirement.

Every plan is built around your household as the unit of analysis, not your accounts in isolation. The plan and the portfolio inform each other constantly, because that is how real financial lives are actually lived.

Tax Strategy

Most investment decisions have a tax consequence, and most tax decisions have an investment consequence. We work both sides at once.

  • Tax-aware investing. Where each holding sits across taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts has a meaningful impact on long-term outcomes. We design asset location deliberately rather than letting it happen by default.
  • Roth conversion strategy. The decision to convert traditional IRA assets to Roth, and the timing of those conversions, can shift hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime taxes for a typical retirement-stage household.
  • Charitable giving structure. Donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions, and appreciated-stock gifts can each turn a generous impulse into a tax-efficient strategy.
  • Coordination with your CPA. Tax planning works best when the people doing the investing and the people filing the return are talking to each other. We do that work proactively, not reactively.

Estate and Legacy

The transfer of wealth from one generation to the next is one of the moments when good planning matters most, and most families have the least support. We work alongside your estate attorney to ensure the strategy in your documents aligns with the strategy in your portfolio and plan.

  • Beneficiary review and titling. The simplest thing in estate planning, and the one most often gotten wrong.
  • Wealth transfer strategy. How to structure gifts, trusts, and inheritances so that wealth strengthens the next generation rather than complicating it.
  • The harder conversations. How much to leave, to whom, on what terms, and how to talk about it as a family, before the conversation has to happen at a worse time.

Insurance and Risk Review

A well-built financial plan accounts for what can go wrong, not just what you hope will go right. Disability, long-term care, premature death, and the slow risk of underinsurance can each undo decades of careful saving in a single event. Our work here is to make sure the protection side of your financial life is as thoughtfully constructed as the investment side.

We review existing policies for cost, coverage adequacy, and continued fit with your current circumstances. We identify gaps where the household is exposed, and surpluses where the household is overpaying for protection it no longer needs. Where new coverage or policy changes are warranted, we offer the right product at the right cost.

Our role is to make sure the protection layer of your plan is working for you.

What it costs

We are a fee-based fiduciary firm. For investment and advisory services, we are paid by our clients and only our clients. No product quotas. No hidden incentives. Our fees are transparent, disclosed in writing, and discussed openly in our first conversation.

On occasion, when it serves your full range of needs, we also offer insurance products. Compensation comes as a commission paid by the insurance carrier and built into the policy, not billed to you separately. Because a commission can create a conflict of interest, we disclose it whenever it applies, and you are always free to purchase elsewhere. We act in your best interests in every recommendation we make.

Let's walk the course together.
